Meet the Curious Explorer

July 13, 2025

As the newest resident of the Peter Sawatzky Sculpture Park made its grand entrance today at Brandon Riverbank, we couldn’t help but spotlight this inquisitive black bear clearing a path—symbolizing strength, curiosity, and the wild spirit of Manitoba.

Caught mid-stride, this 2,700kg (6,000lb) 2M (6ft) tall artwork is a reminder of our deep connection to nature and the art that celebrates it.
This striking sculpture is one of many pieces currently installed at the Brandon Riverbank, with more to come.
Ongoing community support has been key to creating these spaces, and this support includes project funding from the Brandon Area Community Foundation for the riverbank development in general and the sculpture park in particular.
