This past week, we were pleased to attend the key ceremony for two newly-completed homes built by Habitat for Humanity’s Brandon Chapter. Habitat for Humanity has been building homes in Brandon for more than 25 years and has completed more than 45 homes in the community. The Brandon Area Community Foundation supported this latest project with a $14,000 grant and has provided funding for previous Habitat builds.
Habitat for Humanity focuses on building affordable homes and duplexes for low-income families. In Brandon, the organization has a long-standing partnership with the City of Brandon, which donates land for its developments.
Habitat relies on volunteers for construction, collaborates with local partners to fund its projects, and receives support from federal and provincial programs, including the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
These combined efforts give families a pathway to home ownership through affordable, income-based mortgages. Within the BACF granting region, Habitat has built, or is currently building, homes not only in Brandon but also in Virden, Neepawa, Killarney, and Shoal Lake.
